[Mellanox] Fix issues found for CMIS host management (#17637)
- Why I did it
1. Thermal updater should wait more time for module to be initialized
2. sfp should get temperature threshold from EEPROM because SDK sysfs is not yet supported
3. Rename sfp function to fix typo
4. sfp.get_presence should return False if module is under initialization

- Why I did it
For CMIS host management module, we need a different implementation for sfp.reset. This PR is to implement it

For SW control modules, do reset from hw_reset

[Mellanox] update asic and module temperature in a thread for CMIS management (#16955)
- Why I did it
When module is totally under software control, driver cannot get module temperature/temperature threshold from firmware. In this case, sonic needs to get temperature/temperature threshold from EEPROM. In this PR, a thread thermal updater is created to update module temperature/temperature threshold while software control is enabled.

- How I did it
Query ASIC temperature from SDK sysfs and update hw-management-tc periodically
Query Module temperature from EEPROM and update hw-management-tc periodically

[Mellanox] Implement low power mode for cmis host management (#17159)
- Why I did it
For cmis host management mode, the prevous sysfs cannot be used for low power mode setting. This PR reuses existing low power mode implementation in sonic_xcvr package when CMIS host management mode is enabled

Use sonic_xcvr low power mode implementation when CMIS host management mode is enabled.

Manual test for CMIS host management mode
Regression test for old mode and backward compatible test

Provide a dummy implementation for SFP error description when CMIS host management is enabled. A future feature shall be raised to implement SFP error description for such mode.

[Mellanox] Revert LPM implementation to the old way (#17096)
- Why I did it
The current low power mode setting implementation requests the user to set the port to admin down first before toggling LP mode, this is not backward compatible, now revert it to the old way so that the user can toggle the LP mode regardless of the port admin status.

- How I did it
Revert the recent changes related to LPM in PR #14130 and #16545

- How to verify it
Run all sfputil and SFP platform API related tests on all the Mellanox platforms.

[Nvidia] Remove the dependency on python_sdk_api for sfp api (#16545)
Sfp api can now be called from the host which doesn't have the python_sdk_api installed. Also, sfp api has been migrated to use sysfs instead of sdk handle.

[Mellanox][SFP] Remove unused function parameter (#16318)
Why I did it
To avoid errors when the sfputil show error-status -hw is called from the host OS (not from the pmon docker).

How I did it
Remove the self.sdk_handle parameter from the _get_module_info() function.

How to verify it
Execute the sfputil show error-status -hw

Change Mellanox platform API implementation to use ASIC driver sysfs for the module operational state and status error fields.

Modify the platform/mellanox/mlnx-platform-api/sonic_platform/sfp.py file by change the call of sx_mgmt_phy_module_info_get() SDK API to sysfs

Simulate the unplug cable event
Check the CLI output

[Mellanox] Use sysfs for sfp reset/LPM/presence (#14130)
- Why I did it
The current implementation of SFP reset, LPM, present relies on SDK API. This PR moves the implementation to SDK sysfs. By this PR, it gains following benefit:
1. SDK sysfs provides better performance.
2. Host side and container side share the same code.
3. Code is much cleaner.

- How I did it
Use SDK sysfs to implement SFP reset, LPM, present.

- How to verify it
1. Manual test.
2. Unit test.

[Mellanox]Fix lpmode set when logical port is larger than 64 (#14138)
- Why I did it
In sfplpm API, the number of logical ports is hardcoded as 64. When a system contains more port than this, the SDK APIs would fail with a syslog as below

[SFP] Change logging severity when failed to read EEPROM (#13011)
- Why I did it
In order to prevent the sonic-mgmt/tests/platform_tests/sfp/test_sfputil.py test failing on the log analyzer step.

The mentioned test is performing the sfputil reset EthernetX for every interface on the SONiC switch, this action will flap the SFP device status (INSTERTED -> REMOVED -> INSTERTED).

The SONiC XCVRD daemon will catch this SFP device status change (because it is monitoring the presence status of the cable).
To judge the cable presence status, currently, we are still leveraging to read the first bytes of the EEPROM, and the EEPROM could be not ready at some moment and the SONiC XCVRD daemon will print the error log to Syslog:

ERR pmon#xcvrd: Error! Unable to read data for 'xx' port, page 'xx' offset 128, rc = 1, err msg: Sending access register

- How I did it
Change logging severity from ERR to WARNING

- How to verify it
Run the sonic-mgmt/tests/platform_tests/sfp/test_sfputil.py

OR much faster way to run the next script on the switch:

#### Why I did it
`subprocess.Popen()` and `subprocess.check_output()` is used with `shell=True`, which is very dangerous for shell injection.
#### How I did it
Disable `shell=True`, enable `shell=False`
#### How to verify it
Tested on DUT, compare and verify the output between the original behavior and the new changes' behavior.

Revert "[Mellanox] Redirect ethtool stderr to subprocess for better error log (#12038)" (#12183)
This reverts commit 9750cb4.

There is a PR to handle 202205 branch revert: #12184

- Why I did it
The PR to be reverted introduced many notice logs every 1 minute if SFP is not plugged:

Cannot get module EEPROM information: Input/output error
Before the "bad" PR, the message format is like this:

INFO pmon#supervisord: xcvrd Cannot get module EEPROM information: Input/output error
It was truncated by rsyslog because every message is the same. However, the "bad" PR introduces SFP index to the message:

NOTICE pmon#xcvrd: Failed to get EEPROM data for sfp 39: Cannot get module EEPROM information: Input/output error
Rsyslog no longer truncate such log and many such messages are flooded to syslog.

Revert the PR

[Mellanox] Redirect ethtool stderr to subprocess for better error log (#12038)
- Why I did it
ethtool print error logs when EEPROM of a SFP is not available. It prints error like this:

INFO pmon#/supervisord: xcvrd Cannot get module EEPROM information: Input/output error
INFO pmon#/supervisord: xcvrd Cannot get Module EEPROM data: Invalid argument
However, this log does not contain the relevant SFP index which is hard for developer/qa to find the exactly SFP.

Redirect ethtool stderr to subprocess and log it better

[Mellanox] Enhance Python3 support for platform API (#7410)
- Why I did it
Enhance the Python3 support for platform API. Originally, some platform APIs call SDK API which didn't support Python 3. Now the Python 3 APIs have been supported in SDK 4.4.3XXX, Python3 is completely supported by platform API

- How I did it
Start all platform daemons from python3
1. Remove #/usr/bin/env python at the beginning of each platform API file as the platform API won't be started as daemons but be imported from other daemons.
2. Adjust SDK API calls accordingly

- How to verify it
Manually test and run regression platform test

[Mellanox] Fixes issue: CLI sfputil does not work based on sonic platform API (#7018)
#### Why I did it

Recently, CLI sfputil replace the old sonic platform utils with sonic platform API. However, sonic platform API does not support SFP low power mode and reset related operation. The PR is to fix it.

The change to replace platform utils with sonic platform API was reverted on 202012, once this PR is merged, we can cherry-pick these two PRs to 202012 together.

#### How I did it

In low power mode and reset related operation, use "docker exec" if the command is running on host side.

[platform] Update QSFP method name 'parse_qsfp_dom_capability' -> 'parse_dom_capability' (#6695)
**- Why I did it**
PR https://github.com/Azure/sonic-platform-common/pull/102 modified the name of the SFF-8436 (QSFP) method to align the method name between all drivers, renaming it from `parse_qsfp_dom_capability` to `parse_dom_capability`. Once the submodule was updated, the callers using the old nomenclature broke. This PR updates all callers to use the new naming convention.

**- How I did it**

Update the name of the function globally for all calls into the SFF-8436 driver.

Note that the QSFP-DD driver still uses the old nomenclature and should be modified similarly. I will open a PR to handle this separately.

[Mellanox] Re-initialize SFP object when detecting a new SFP insertion (#5695)
When detecting a new SFP insertion, read its SFP type and DOM capability from EEPROM again.

SFP object will be initialized to a certain type even if no SFP present. A case could be:

1. A SFP object is initialized to QSFP type by default when there is no SFP present
2. User insert a SFP with an adapter to this QSFP port
3. The SFP object fail to read EEPROM because it still treats itself as QSFP.

This PR fixes this issue.

[Mellanox] Refactor SFP related platform API and plugins with new SDK API (#5326)
Refactor SFP reset, low power get/set API, and plugins with new SDK SX APIs. Previously they were calling SDK SXD APIs which have glibc dependency because of shared memory usage.

Remove implementation "set_power_override", "tx_disable_channel", "tx_disable" which using SXD APIs, once related SDK SX API available, will add them back based on new SDK SX APIs.

[Python] Migrate applications/scripts to import sonic-py-common package (#5043)
As part of consolidating all common Python-based functionality into the new sonic-py-common package, this pull request:
1. Redirects all Python applications/scripts in sonic-buildimage repo which previously imported sonic_device_util or sonic_daemon_base to instead import sonic-py-common, which was added in https://github.com/Azure/sonic-buildimage/pull/5003
2. Replaces all calls to `sonic_device_util.get_platform_info()` to instead call `sonic_py_common.get_platform()` and removes any calls to `sonic_device_util.get_machine_info()` which are no longer necessary (i.e., those which were only used to pass the results to `sonic_device_util.get_platform_info()`.
3. Removes unused imports to the now-deprecated sonic-daemon-base package and sonic_device_util.py module

This is the next step toward resolving https://github.com/Azure/sonic-buildimage/issues/4999

Also reverted my previous change in which device_info.get_platform() would first try obtaining the platform ID string from Config DB and fall back to gathering it from machine.conf upon failure because this function is called by sonic-cfggen before the data is in the DB, in which case, the db_connect() call will hang indefinitely, which was not the behavior I expected. As of now, the function will always reference machine.conf.

90ddad48d1 [mellanox ]improve the method the type of sfp module is detected (#3846)
Fix the issue when an SFP module is plugged into a QSFP port via an adapter.

- How I did it
Originally the type of an SFP module is determined according to the SKU dictionary. However, it's possible that as SFP module is plugged into a QSFP port via an adapter. In this case, the EEPROM content will be parsed in the wrong format.
To address that we fetch the identifier value of an xSFP module and then get the type by parsing it.

optimize SFP module operations and fix issues.

- split initialization of variant categories of devices and initialize each category of devices only when needed, so that unnecessary dependencies can be avoided.
- update watchdog logic, only initializing watchdog when referenced.
- support platform.py and enable to initialize variant devices on a host/docker basis
- update init so that sonic_platform can be imported as a whole.

20e4547dbc [Mellanox] Fix typo "xSFP_VLOT_OFFSET" (#3118)
Variables SFP_VLOT_OFFSET and QSFP_VLOT_OFFSET containing the typo are originally defined in repo sonic-platform-common. The typo has been fixed in PR #33. However, some Mellanox-specific code hasn't updated correspondingly, which results in xcvrd fail to start.
This PR updates the variable name in Mellanox-specific code correspondingly to fix that.
